District Issues Sustainable Purchasing Guidance for 100 Commonly Purchased Products

Monday, March 23, 2015

The Office of Contracting and Procurement released environmental specification guidance for more than 100 commonly purchased products and services in support of the District’s sustainability goals and green procurement requirements.  The guidance covers 14 product and service categories, ranging from paper to landscaping services, and can be viewed here.

District agencies can utilize environmental specification guidance to develop procurement requirements that are in compliance with environmentally preferable purchasing requirements detailed in the Procurement Practices Reform Act of 2010.  Additionally, the guidance advances sustainability goals and actions included in the District’s Sustainable DC Plan.

Environmental specifications are posted publicly so that local businesses can review environmental specification guidance, and be better prepared to meet District needs moving forward.

Development of the sustainable specifications was funded by a multi-year grant from the District’s Sustainable DC Innovation Challenge.
