The federally-funded Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program is the central vehicle for providing assistance to families who are experiencing economic challenges. It is a federal mandate that work-eligible TANF recipients (customers) engage in 20, 30, or 35 hours of eligible activities per week. The DC Department of Human Services (DHS) administers the TANF Employment Program (TEP), a person-centric employment program that assists customers to navigate educational, training, and work-search activities.
