OCP, DPR, and OCTO partner to upgrade Benning Park Recreation Center

Friday, September 12, 2014

September 12 – The Benning Park Recreation Center’s Computer lab got a facelift thanks to the Office of Contracting and Procurement’s Surplus Property team and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO).

Through a partnership with the Department of Recreation and the staff at the center, the Surplus Property team outfitted the lab with 16 Dell computers, flat screen monitors, tables and chairs for 24 work stations, and an additional desk and computer for the lab’s receptionist.  Once the Surplus team located and set up the equipment, specialists from OCTO’s IT ServUS team reconfigured and reimaged the computers to meet the required specifications.

The surplus equipment replaced seven out-of-date computers that were previously housed in the lab. The increased work stations and updated equipment allow more residents of the Ward 7 community to take advantage of the classes and work space offered by the center.

This project is a part of an ongoing effort by OCP’s Surplus Property Division to partner with District agencies, Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, local businesses and non-profit organizations to utilize surplus property made available through the District and Federal governments.
