Thousands of items are available as part of hospital equipment liquidation.
(Washington, DC)— The District of Columbia Government will begin the public auction of surplus property (equipment and goods) from the United Medical Center (UMC), following the hospital’s closure after more than six decades of service to the community. Starting Wednesday, May 28, surplus assets from UMC will be auctioned in phases over the coming months, with most sales expected to conclude by November 2025. Thousands of items will be made available through the public online bidding process, including advanced medical equipment (such as MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, and infusion pump machines), hundreds of Stryker MedSurg hospital beds, sterilization systems, as well as other furnishings and equipment. Interested buyers can browse available inventory and register to bid at dcgovt.govdeals.com. Participation is open to individuals, small businesses, and organizations.
The auction will be conducted by the District’s Surplus Property Program, which is managed by the DC Office of Contracting and Procurement (OCP) through the agency’s Surplus Property Division. The District’s Surplus Property Program provides District government agencies with a streamlined process for the reuse, sale, or disposal of government surplus property. In Fiscal Year 2024, the Surplus Property Program generated $7.8 million in revenue through the sale and disposal of surplus property.
About OCP: The Office of Contracting and Procurement (OCP) was established by DC law in 1997 and provides contracting services for 79 agencies and offices of the Government of the District of Columbia. The mission of OCP is to partner with vendors and District agencies to purchase quality goods and services in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost, while ensuring that all purchasing actions are conducted fairly and impartially. In Fiscal Year 2025, OCP estimates it will manage the purchase of $6.1 billion in goods, services, and construction. Learn more about OCP at ocp.dc.gov.
